CEO promises "a better Twitter" after reporting slower user growth
Twitter reported fourth-quarter revenue of $242.7 million on Wednesday, comfortably beating analysts' predictions, but the company's stock price dipped in after-hours trading amid concerns over declining user growth rates. CEO Dick Costolo promised better things for the future. "We simply need to make Twitter a better Twitter," he said. Facebook celebrates its birthday with "Look Back" feature
Facebook marked the 10th anniversary of its launch with a "Look Back" video feature that automatically creates a highlights reel showing users' activity since they joined the site. The biggest Super Bowl brand successes on social media
The Seahawks and Budweiser weren't the only brands that came away with big wins at the Super Bowl. Chevy sped up social media fan acquisition by 500%, and Esurance's big cash giveaway netted it a more than 2,000% increase in Twitter followers, according to data from Ad Age and ListenFirst. "We believe a longer view that looks at the growth of brands' social communities is ... a critical benchmark," said Jason Klein, co-CEO and co-founder of ListenFirst. Don't ignore negative feedback, says Hilton social media chief
Many companies simply ignore online complaints, but that won't cut it in the hospitality sector, says Hilton Worldwide's director of social media planning, Vanessa Sain-Dieguez. Hilton actively seeks out and engages with negative chatter on social sites, Sain-Dieguez says, in a bid to ensure that customers always feel their complaints are being heard and acted upon. Study: Millennials aren't quitting Facebook
Facebook doesn't appear to be losing its hold on younger users, according to a comScore survey. While millennials are exploring other networks, Facebook remains by far the most widely used network among the youth demographic. "Instead of departing Facebook in droves for other, hotter newcomers, Millennials seem to be splitting their time among the networks, while using Facebook as a sort of a baseline," Mike Isaac writes. The Takeaway
How brands can get ahead on Facebook's Paper app
Facebook's Paper application is potentially a boon for brands, Doug Hopkins writes. The details of the app's implementation are vague, but it's clear that to succeed on the platform, brands will have to balance topicality, trusted sources and brand-relevant content. "The insertion of branded content, either directly or indirectly, should also strive for a balanced approach that hits the right notes to play well within the ground rules Paper is trying to establish," Hopkins writes. Benedict Cumberbatch vs. the Muppets
Benedict Cumberbatch has put in a guest appearance on "Sesame Street," where the Muppets apparently had some trouble differentiating the actor from when he played Sherlock Holmes on TV. With a little help from the Count, however, the star proves able to deduce how many apples and oranges are on the table in front of him. Wired.com (2/4)

Is your mom on Facebook? Yes. You ask that same question about Twitter, the answer is almost always no. The question is, can [Twitter] ever become mainstream like Facebook is?"
