Twitter shares likely to finish the year on a high note
Twitter's share price is up 182% since its initial public offering in November, despite analysts' skepticism about the company's power to convert social chatter into profits. Experts say the increase has been driven by individuals and institutions seduced by Twitter's brand strength and market momentum. "Twitter ... has been doing so well that when institutions are reviewing their year-end portfolios they want to be able to go to investors and say they've been in it," says Frank Davis of Lek Securities. "[A] Facebook timeline approach could be just what medical records need," McCormack writes. Quartz (12/27)

Report: Gen Xers are vital social media demographic
Generation X grew up with the Internet and should not be written off by marketers, an eMarketer report says. Are your engagement levels twisting in the wind?
Studies suggest that social content generates more engagement and sharing when the weather is bad, presumably because people are more likely to be stuck indoors surfing the Web. That's something marketers can use to their advantage, although it's important not to appear to be taking advantage of adverse weather events, Steve Olenski writes. "Take off your marketing/ROI hat and just be a person -- a human being -- and use your common sense and best judgment," Olenski writes. Marketing Land (12/26)
