Report: Twitter is planning to allow for tweets to be edited
Twitter reportedly is working on a feature that would let users edit tweets after they've been published. The concept being explored would give users a short window in which to correct typos or tweak their phrasing, with only one edit permitted per tweet, according to Matthew Keys, who cites anonymous Twitter employees. Other reports, however, have cast doubt on Twitter's development of an edit option; CNET's Jennifer Van Grove writes that the company is not "actively exploring" the feature. Network Update
Facebook is studying your unpublished updates
Facebook is watching what users type, even when they ultimately delete a status update before publishing it. Researchers found that Facebook had the capability to monitor unposted updates, and the social network subsequently confirmed that it sometimes monitored what it calls "self-censored" posts, but denied storing the specific words people typed. "This is something we looked at to understand to what extent people self-censor," Facebook's Matt Steinfeld says. Why Facebook video ads are a big win for TV, film marketers
Facebook's new video ad units are set up to reach millions of users, so they could prove to be a popular play among TV brands -- the same marketers who frequently use Twitter's Promoted Trends. "The Twitter Promoted Trend for live events and TV shows is great. But if TV marketers offer exclusive content with upcoming scenes from their show as Facebook auto-play video ads, that will be a nice win for the Hollywood folks," said Iris Worldwide Senior Social Strategist Mary Snauffer.
