Facebook has reported fourth-quarter ad revenue of $2.34 billion, with more than half of that coming from mobile ads. Overall revenue was up 63% year-over-year, and the company reported net income of $523 million, up from $64 million in Q4 2012. Facebook today announced its Paper application, the first standalone app to come from the Facebook Creative Labs initiative. Paper will reimagine the standard news feed by showcasing a range of stories, chosen by Facebook editors and algorithms, within specific categories. The design is meant to encourage users to slow down their rapid social media scrolling, product designer Mike Matas says. CNN sees results from Twitter service that generates news leads
A Twitter vendor called Dataminr is offering a service to news outlets to look for breaking stories on Twitter, figure out whether the tweets are trending on the microblog and provide leads to newsrooms. CNN signed up for the service six months ago and has been generating about two stories a day from Dataminr.
